Do you ever suffer from self doubt?

July 11, 2008 by donwestacott

This is the No1 killer of dreams.
Self-doubt and it’s ally Procrastination. These evils anchor you to your current lifestyle and income level.
Learn how to break these chains.
If you do you suffer from these you are not alone
Self-doubt, procrastination and a lack of motivation are the cause of personal failure in the lives of millions of people. However there are easy to apply techniques that will help you break out of this negative state of mind.
Another cause of inner discontent is not living up to your true potential. This can lead to anger and depression.
Do you put off making important decisions or taking action when you know you should?
This is another symptom of your inner discontent.
Do not despair, there are lots of things you can do to improve your life and your happiness and the first step is an important one and that is in recognising that you have this problem.
The simple fact is you can’t cure a problem until are aware you have one.
Overcoming procrastination and building a positive self-image is not impossible. It is often your fear of failure or even your fear of success can be the cause of a lack of energy that leads to procrastination.
People who procrastinate become frustrated and generally accomplish nothing.  Here are some very practical steps you can take that will lead you to personal success and keep you motivated.
Change this negative behaviour by identifying the things that cause you to procrastinate in the first place.
Feelings of fear, rejection, and unworthiness take a real toll on your self-esteem. Taking steps to improve your self-esteem will make a huge difference in your energy level and will motivate you to make other positive changes in your life.
Two things motivate human beings: pleasure and pain.  Make a list of the things you would like to accomplish and how you will reward yourself when you do reach your goals.
When you are making your list, be sure to include the consequences you will suffer by procrastinating. Do this like a balance sheet, with the Good things that will result from your positive action on one side and the bad effects resulting from your lack of action on the other.
Keeping the reward in mind will make it easier to stay motivated.
Overcoming irrational fears and phobias are crucial to your self-esteem and energy level. The act of procrastinating itself creates self-esteem issues. Guilt, stress, and anxiety are results of low self-esteem and lack of motivation.
Procrastination is a habitual behaviour.
You can break the cycle of self-doubt and procrastination if you make the decision to do so.
Keep a list of the things you need to accomplish, both long and short-term goals, and reward yourself for each thing you cross off your list.
It is not easy to break old habits, but it can be done, it is said it only takes 20 days to break an old habit and create a new one to replace it.
Soon you will find that the new behaviour is habitual or second nature.
Keep in mind that your emotional health is closely related to your physical health. A sensible diet and exercise will do wonders for your self-image.
You will find that when you make an effort to change your negative behaviour you will have more energy and your self-esteem will soar. Procrastination will no longer control your life and you will be motivated to accomplish your goals.
As I said at the beginning, you can change your self-image and become a highly motivated individual if you take the time to find out why you lack motivation and take these steps to improve your self-esteem.
Always be prepared to go the extra mile. Even if you have had a lousy day make one extra call, it may be the one that makes your day, or your week, or it may change your life, who knows?
You may never know if you don’t make that last call.
If you are to become the master of your own destiny you must understand the basis upon which to build your own personal security despite the myth that your security is vested in a JOB!

The basics of your personal security.

July 11, 2008 by donwestacott

A new way to think about what you need to be a success.

Your personal security is based on three fundamental principles.

 1)    Your willingness to do the job you are in.

If you are not 100% focused and dedicated to your work, sooner or later this will catch up with you.

Your employer will lose faith in you, or worse still, you could lose faith in yourself. You will learn more about this when you read the page entitled  “The Magic Word—Attitude.”

 2)    Your ability to do the job.

Security doesn’t exist if you are not capable of doing the job.

Selling is easy if you work it hard. Learn the skills then practice and keep on practicing to build up the experience you need to become a master salesperson.

3)    Your Health

Without your health you cannot have long-term security. Keep yourself fit. It not only improves your job prospects but also your lifestyle.

 In Summary –

Your security is vested in you, not in the job title you are currently holding.

Invest in yourself; you are your own business enterprise.

Do all the things a business has to do to succeed.

Improve your service; Increase your skills, Increase your knowledge, and Increase your client base.

Knowledge is power.

Pursuing these objectives will increase your personal value and bring you increasing rewards.

Maximize the value of your Time.  Measure it and treasure it.

Analyze the way you spend your selling time.

Most people waste a large proportion of their waking lives on

activities that do not contribute to their own success, and then they complain that other people have more luck than they do The reality is that the others have spent their time making sure

they’ll be “lucky” by practicing their skills or through study.

Nobody in the world has more time than you.

We all have the same amount.

We cannot increase the amount of time available to us.

We cannot stop it, stretch it, speed it up, slow it down, or retrieve it.

We already have all the time we are going to get.

For more on this subject read “ Time your most valuable commodity.”

Now lets examine the one thing that keeps most people stuck where they are in life —-Self-doubt.

How come you are like you are?

July 11, 2008 by donwestacott

When you understand how and why you are like you are, you become aware of the things in your life that are holding you back. This knowledge will open up the possibility for change. If you don’t change, everything in your life will stay as it is.
When you observe this about yourself you will become aware, that the majority of people just want to stay and operate in their own comfort zones.
We are first conditioned by our parents, relatives and other well meaning people. A lot of their advice is beneficial to us, such as stay away from that, it is hot; do not eat that it will make you sick; or you should not do that. Usually good advice and meant to be helpful.
However, if we carry a lot of this advice through to adulthood it is no longer appropriate. Many parents will put their fears upon their children. Ideas like the fear of drowning, the fear of dogs or other animals are implanted in young people’s minds.  These though are only the tip of the iceberg.
There are the relationship areas as well to be aware of.  This will include such sayings as, ‘Men only love one thing,’ or ‘All women ever want is your money.’
Our parents are our first teachers and for survival reasons we need to take notice of them. Pretty basic stuff and that is the way it is.
Without looking at our beliefs we will not be aware of the limitations that we carry with us.  These will be in the form of our expectations or attitudes in many areas of our lives such as money, relationships and the world in general.
These beliefs will not only affect our general view of life but our health and prosperity as well. . So, what do we do about our limiting beliefs?
We all know people whom we would not judge as more intelligent, beautiful or handsome than us and yet they seem to have great ease in their lives.
We know of others who are in the same profession or job as us who seem able to progress more easily than us. It does not seem to matter how hard we work or that they live in a better area, so it is not their work rate or their location that makes the difference.
Then what is it?  Could it be their belief system is more favourable to them?
In other words do they have more self-belief. There is a whole raft of experience and scientific studies that support this view.
So what can we do?
The first step is to become aware of what is going on in your life and the patterns of experience that repeat themselves. Some of these may be in the realm of money such as emulating one or both of your parents’ behaviour towards money.
Begin by becoming aware of patterns in your life and the life of your parents.
There are many books to read and courses to experience about Self-awareness will assist you in bringing these patterns to the fore.
This will give you more choices for inner growth.
Once you begin this exercise in self-awareness you will find that it is a never ending journey of discovery which will add interest and enthusiasm to everything you undertake throughout your life.
You will also be aware that this is not your way as you are choosing the path of expansion and personal growth.  This usually takes more courage and determination but it will be ever so much more rewarding.
Now is the time for action.  Without action nothing will change.  If nothing changes you will be earning the same next year as you are today and that is not what you want.  So let’s get started by examining first what is the basis of our personal security.

So you want to be a salesperson?

July 11, 2008 by donwestacott

An outline of the essential skills used by top producers which you will learn in my blogs that follow.

The first requirement in the pursuit of a happy and successful career in selling is your own belief in the value of the product or service that you are selling.

This is an ethics issue.

If you are not totally convinced that what you are offering represents good value then the chances are you will not sell it successfully. Or if you do then your own self-esteem will suffer – not a price worth paying, especially when there are so many valuable products and services waiting for you to exploit.

The raw materials you need for Selling.

1) Social Skills. Learn the importance of your appearance and other personal attributes.

2) Your prospects needs and your personal needs.

3) Time, your most precious commodity.

4) Product or technical knowledge.

5) Ideas.  Learn and practice ‘ creative visualisation.’

6) Energy. Learn how to stay enthusiastic and motivated.

Your job as the salesman is to maximise the effectiveness of all these ingredients, for the benefit of the customer, the company and yourself, in that order.

What would Snr Vilfredo Pareto have to say about your business?

March 4, 2008 by donwestacott

Now you may well ask who is Snr Pareto and why should I care about his opinion?
Well you will once you understand what he can teach you.Snr Pareto is no longer around but he was a Venetian of high rank in the Italian Government many years ago.His value to you and your business is based upon a law of nature that he taught. This is not just a theory,  it is a law just as real as the Law of Gravity. You wouldn’t go through life ignoring the Law of Gravity, equally you should not run your business ignoring what has now become known as “Pareto’s Law”
In essence this law sets out the principle of the 80/20 rule.
You have probably heard of it as such,  however you may not have really understood its significance to your life and your business.
As an example and as a fact, if you are not already applying this principle, he states that 80% of the results you obtain are the result of 20% of your efforts both in your private life and in your business undertakings. It will pay you to take this on board and examine all your activities if you want better results than you are getting. This is because, if you keep on doing things the way you are doing them you will keep on getting the same results.
Start by examining every aspect of you business
1)Your Time Management. This one of the most critical elements of your success or failure in Life and in Business. We all have the same amount of time, no one has any more than you and I, yet some people are making a fortune in the same time frame as us, and like it or not, their better use of  their working time is a big factor in their greater success..
2) Your Employees.  Examine carefully and without letting your emotions figure in the calculation the actual contribution to your results each employee is making.. Unless you are very lucky you will see this principle being fulfilled..  80% of the effective work is probably being done by 20% of the people.
3) Your Administration.  Are you spending your time on doing things you don’t get paid for.  The only time you earning money  is when you are ‘hands on’ at the job.  All the other work can be done by others at a lower rate of pay than you.  It is a false economy to continue spending your time doing £5 an hour work. especially when you have a pile of jobs ahead of you.
4) Your Marketing.  What methods are you using to create a continuous stream of enquiries?  Most people find on examination that only 20% of the money they spend on advertising is working. It will profit you no end to carry out an examination of your business practices under these headings as a start.

The $20,000 Idea that will increase your profits.

March 4, 2008 by donwestacott

A lot of time is lost through confusion of the mind. You sometimes feel as if you are running around like a headless chicken. There is a way out of this. It’s an idea that was worth $20,000 to a man. An entrepreneur called Schwartz ran a Company in the steel business in America in the last century. His factory was quite efficient but he had got to the point where no matter what he did, he could not boost productivity. He called in a management consultant, a Mr Lee. Mr Schwartz explained his dilemma and asked if there was any advice Mr Lee could give him. They were having the discussion in Mr Schwartz’ office and Mr Lee noticed his desk was piled with memos and other papers. He had seen how busy Schwartz had been, with phone calls and a variety of other distractions during his interview. Mr Lee then offered his one piece of advice: “Before you go home tonight make a list of all things that you can think of that you have to do tomorrow, including anything on your desk that needs attention. Clear your desktop of anything that is not essential. Include on your list any other jobs that you have to attend to that are running around in your head. What we are doing here is emptying your head of all the activities that you feel you have to be involved in, by putting them down on a piece of paper. “When your list is complete, study it, find the job that is your highest priority and mark it “number one”. Then go back through the list to find the job that has second highest priority and mark it number two. Go right through the list until you have given every job a number in its right priority. “When you’ve done all this put the list in your pocket and go home. Tomorrow when you come into work, take the list and start work on job number one, when you’ve completed that job or when you’ve done as much as you are able at that time, move on to job “number two”. Do this all day, working down your list in the order of the priorities you established. At the end of the day repeat the process. Make a new list before you go home and prioritise every job that comes to mind. “If you do this you will have the satisfaction of knowing that at every moment of the day you are always doing the job that needed doing the most. Your mind will be clear of clutter and you will get a greater feeling of satisfaction from your work. “I realise that other jobs will come up in between those on your list, these you should prioritise as they arise and this will keep things in their right order.” A month later Mr Schwartz sent Mr Lee a cheque for $20,000 with a note saying that this was fair compensation for the amount that the idea had been worth to his company. He also said that he had applied these principles to all his key people in the factory. They now all worked from their own lists of priority jobs. Mr Schwartz added that production had increased dramatically. The company is the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, which went on to become the biggest steel producer in America. When I applied this method of prioritising my own work, it resulted in far less stress and much greater production. I recommend that you apply this method immediately and feel the benefits tomorr
